Trois Oiseaux sur Une Table

Oil on canvas, signed and dated upper right, and titled “Trois oiseaux sur une table” on the reverse. A characteristic work of Buffet’s early maturity: the angular, sharply outlined figuration and the restrained palette of greys, ochres and blacks that defined his painting in the years following the 1948 Prix de la Critique.
