Born in Wrexham, Wales, Rielly paints in washed, pale watercolour and oil a world that looks benign until it isn’t. Children, families and domestic scenes are rendered with a lightness that keeps undercutting itself: something is wrong in the image and the technique refuses to acknowledge it.
He came to attention in the nineties alongside the generation around the Sensation exhibition. He has lived and worked in France for many years.
