Born in Sariñena, Huesca, Cabellut spent her early childhood on the streets of Barcelona before being adopted at thirteen. A visit to the Prado at that age, and the encounter with Goya, set the direction of everything after.
She trained in Amsterdam and has lived in the Netherlands since. Her portraits are built with a fresco technique of her own devising: layers of plaster cracked and worked until the surface carries the same history as the face on it. She works on large scale and in extended series, often around figures at the margins.
