The masks often had beautiful quill work, beads and feathered adornment and their design was sometimes inspired by a vision. Smith has admitted an attraction to predators and dangerous game and his affinity for great bears is apparent in Retreat from the Heat. As the harsh morning sun heats the earth, the only cool surface available to this magnificent grizzly bear is a rushing stream. The wet fur on his belly and legs attest to the bear's love of the water as he plunges in with his massive front paws. Since the 1960s, however, the mountain lion population has rebounded thanks to new protective laws. In artist Daniel Smith's home state of Montana, the growing number of cougars has created some overlap in territory between the wild and civilization. A great cat sitting at the edge of a driveway is a sight that has become all too familiar to many residents, including Daniel Smith, who recently looked up into a tree on his property to find a cougar wrapped around the upper branches like an overgrown kitten.

The mountain lion in Smith's newest painting, however, is in his glory in the wild. Smith's detailed style captures the curl of the cougar's tail and the tension in his muscles so realistically that you may feel the need to slowly back away from this cat On the Edge.
Price:$ 1,299.00

In 1782 the Continental Congress officially adopted the current design for the Great Seal of the United States, emboldened with a bald eagle grasping arrows and an olive branch with its talons. While on the brink of extinction late in the 20th century, today the population of the great bird has stabilized, ensuring that this living embodiment of freedom continues its reign.
Price:$ 941.00

Surrounding the monument were framed photographs of local young men who had been killed in World War II. Bill was particularly moved by one photograph of a fresh-faced boy, his arms around a cow. "This was no jack-booted Nazi. This was a farm kid who loved his home and went off to fight for it, just as American boys had done."

The boy’s story began to develop in Bill’s imagination: the young German had gone into the Luftwaffe and learned to fly fighter jets. One day, early in the war, the boy and a friend had buzzed the home valley in their BF-109s. "I guess all pilots have done that, in every country," says Bill. "The pride of flight is universal." Bill checked with a German pilot, who said the practice was strictly verboten — "…but of course we did it."
Price:$ 1,310.00

I imagined that early one morning as Sun’s rays swept across the land, this old man dismounted from his pony. “The story in a painting like this is in the faces of the figures. That is the dilemma James C. Christensen presents in The Rich Young Ruler. Christensen’s most popular scriptural works have focused on the challenge to live our faith, to give all that we have and to live in a state of thankfulness.

Just before his triumphal entrance into Jerusalem, Jesus passed through a town where a righteous young man asked him what he could do to inherit eternal life. The young man told Jesus how he followed the Commandments and obeyed the laws of his people, but Jesus asked something more: “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor,” he said, “and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” The home of The Rich Young Ruler is filled with symbols of both his success and his dilemma. The laden camels in the frieze in the foreground illustrate Jesus’ next words to his disciples, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. ”The ruler himself is richly dressed in fine fabrics and jewels and the room is filled with lush plants, which in a desert setting would be quite costly to maintain. Sputtering beside the entrance to the door is the ruler’s lamp that, like the flame of his belief, wavers in the wind. These symbols, combined with Christensen’s unique style, make The Rich Young Ruler an elegant story of difficult decisions and of a Master who will always look back and offer another chance.

“The original painting was commissioned by a successful businessman, today’s equivalent of a rich young ruler,” says Christensen. “He wanted a visual reminder that success has many forms and that faith is its own reward. He wanted to ask himself every day what he would have done in that situation.”

The stage for this joyous vision in a pastel palate is set in a Christensen fantasy world, as we join a maiden and her unusual wedding party sailing into destiny. Richly layered nuptial symbolism awaits your discovery: something old (the ruins in the background), something new (the egg on the pillow), something borrowed (a tan girl from Baroque artist Diego Velázquez), something blue (the flowing ribbon in the bride’s hair, a symbol of purity from ancient Israel). That’s only the beginning! Much like the art of marriage itself, Christensen’s The Bride promises years of unfolding pleasures.

The subject of Saint with White Sleeves does not appear to be a specific saint, and the model for this striking portrait was likely one of the Master’s patrons. It was customary at the time for the wealthy to request that their portraits incorporate characteristics of saints or angels. In Saint with White Sleeves, the halo suggests a saint, yet the white sleeves hint at angel’s wings.
Price:$ 736.00

Parts for these machines were scavenged from local dumps, Basements and garages. The most exciting part of these adventures was the initial test run; usually done on the highest neighborhood hill. In the painting ‘Up And Over’ I’ve tried to capture the thrill of anticipation as the home made racer tops Murphy’s Hill for the first time. Remembering back to my lack of daring I have pictured myself as the cart pusher and my two younger cousins as the test pilots."

You are witness to something few humans ever see. The sweet smell of incense carried on the breeze has awoken you from your rest in the woods and you capture a glimpse of the king and queen of the faeries passing by. "This is not the May Day parade or a Coronation," James C. Christensen explains. "Simply, this is The Royal Processional - just your regular, everyday king and queen of the Faeries entourage."

Inspired by the grand processions of history, fiction and movies, Christensen provides a glimpse of the faerie world by fashioning an eclectic parade of fantasy forest denizens. "The king in the armor is Oberon and the queen is Tatiana," says Christensen. "They are the rulers of the Faeries. Other fascinating creatures waiting to be discovered are their laughing faeries-in-waiting, their old prime minister with the butterfly banner, the young wizard-in-training with his nose in a book, and the incense bearers to alert - by smell - the other forest creatures."

Join The Royal Processional and set yourself apart from mere mortals.

With wonder and awe the child gazes upon the unusual gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. The expression on the child’s face is captured with dozens of camera flashes before the scene ends and the actors discard their elaborate robes. But for Utah artist Liz Lemon Swindle, this is the beginning.

“By studying photographs from a dramatization of this moment between the wise men and the child,” Liz says, “I am able to better understand the sacred events that brought the Holy Men to Bethlehem. Their costly gifts to Jesus were not typical presents extended to a child to make him merry. They were gifts for a ruling monarch, in reverence to his birth as King. I created this work based on Matthew 2:1-16 which describes Christ as a young child when first visited by the wise men. The scene is often portrayed in the stable but according to the Scriptures, it could have been 18 to 24 months later."

The Holy Men is the fourth work of art to be published in the Son of Man Series. Portraits of the mortal life of Jesus Christ, from the first scene of Mary and the babe Jesus to the Holy Men - referring not only to the wise men but Jesus himself, has become the hallmark, if not the signature, of the artist.
Price:$ 885.00

"I never cease to be inspired by the wonder and curiosity of children,” says Weistling. “This little farm girl loves to spend time with her chickens and found her way into the coop one day. This serene moment I painted changed rapidly after she decided to stick her thumbs into the eggs to see what would happen. It got pretty messy."

Morgan Weistling’s contemporary impressionism celebrates the wonder of a timeless America, as well as the beauty of everyday moments. His painting, Quilting Bee, 19th Century Americana, was the winner of several awards at the most recent Masters of the American West Art Show and Sale, where it sold for over $160,000. The Egg Inspector is a sweet and easy way to begin collecting the works of this fine artist.
